Because we are offering a significant discount, should you choose to purchase twelve months up front, we are unable to refund our annual subscriptions. However, there is no obligation to renew the subscripton and you may, at any time, remove the “autorenew” feature from your account.
Our monthly subscribers – those paying $6.99, $9.99 or $16.99 per month – may cancel at any time by removing the “autorenew” feature from the account.
Ergo, no: You may not be refunded for annual subscription fees once you have purchased and started using one month of access.
Similarly, we do not refund your monthly fee because you are able to cancel the subscription before each monthly charge.

No. That is not what we do. We are not a referral service, and we do not consult.
We provide you with the most original, comprehensive reporting, including the most authoritative sourcing, to empower you in every decision you make as veterinary professionals (the majority of our readership) and dog fanatics who want the best information available.

Short answer, there is little if any difference as far as how we gather the information. The difference is formatting. Because nearly every story we do is asking questions that have never been asked of people who have never or rarely been questioned, we gather treasure troves of invaluable information – facts – about the companies and people we cover. The best journalists base facts on what the most credible, authoritative sources say and always take readers on every step of the journey they took to get the information being presented. Good journalists show how they came to know what they know and they take pains not to “tell.”
In the profiles, we may not take readers on that “show, not tell” journey if we’ve already done so in our reporting. We will provide and update information we gather during the course of our reporting in the profiles and refer readers to the original reports where the information first appeared.
Often, we gather information we end up not using in a story during the course of reporting a story. This is another example of how the databases are produced.
Note: Our first priority is our reporting; however, in late 2023/2024, we are aiming to ramp up the databases.

As with many of TCR’s standards and policies, we follow The New York Times’s policies with respect to corrections. Quoting from The Times’s own policy:
“We recognize an ethical responsibility to correct all factual errors, large and small, promptly and in a prominent space. We encourage readers to reach out to us at [corrections@thecaninereview.com] when they spot a possible mistake.”
TCR’s Process
- We determine if a factual error was made. We talk to the reporter. We sometimes, but not always, go back to a source if a subject matter expert is challenging him or her, in which point a clarification rather than correction would likely be warranted to make clear to readers that a difference of opinion among reputable sources exists which we failed to make clear in the original piece.
- We add corrections anywhere we broadcasted any error, including online and social media, news blasts, and in videos.
- When there is a typo that is an obvious error, we will correct it without adding a correcting to the footer of the story. Otherwise, we always note the correction to the footer.
