In December 2019, nine families along with the Caru Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals filed suit against Trina and Rick Kenney and their children, Elijah and Jezriel. According to the suit, the Kenney family sold the plaintiffs “sick and diseased puppies over the internet.”
In a Los Angeles Times report around the time the suit was filed in 2019, one of those nine plaintiff families, the Loys, describes how they were scammed into spending $1,200 in cash for what they were told was a miniature labradoodle puppy that lived only days, but not before accumulating thousands of dollars in veterinary bills.
